Memorial and Tribute Gifts

A gift to WCFS is a distinct way to honor or remember a special person or event. A thank you note will be sent to the individual or family you have honored; the amount of the gift will not be disclosed.

Gifts of Stock

A gift of stock can be a particularly good giving vehicle, especially if you have owned the stock for at least one year. If you sell the stock, you will pay a capital gains tax on any increase in its value. By giving stock to West Chester Friends School, you will avoid the capital gains tax and you may be able to claim a tax deduction. Sample transfer letter.

Gifts through Your IRA

If you are 72 or older, you are required to take a required minimum distribution annually from your IRA account(s). You can gift a distribution from your traditional or Roth IRA directly to West Chester Friends School that will be 100% tax free from federal and PA taxes. This can be set up as a one-time or recurring gift. Sample transfer letter.

You can give to the West Chester Friends School through your Donor Advised Fund. For current gifts, notify your DAF fund administrator.

Gifts through Your Estate

The 1836 Society

The 1836 Society was established to honor those who have included West Chester Friends School in their estate planning. These include naming West Chester Friends School in your will or as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.

Estate Gifts

One of the easiest ways to give to West Chester Friends School is through your will of revocable living trust. You can name West Chester Friends School as the beneficiary of specific assets, a portion of your estate or your residual estate after payment of other bequests. Bequests are free from federal estate tax. To include the West Chester Friends School in your will or estate plans, please use this language:

“The West Chester Friends School, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of Pennsylvania, and with the business address of 415 North High Street, West Chester, Pennsylvania 19380.”

Retirement Plans

You can name the West Chester Friends School as a beneficiary of your individual IRA account (IRA), 401(k), 403(b), Keogh Plan or other qualified pension plan. West Chester Friends School can be designated as a beneficiary of part or all of what remains in your retirement account. The proceeds of these plans are distributed outside probate and are free from federal estate tax.

Life Insurance

You can name the West Chester Friends School as a beneficiary of your individual insurance account.The proceeds of these plans are distributed outside probate and are free from federal estate tax.

Pennsylvania Tax Credits for Scholarship

You can put your Pennsylvania tax liability to work for scholarships at West Chester Friends School, either through The Friends Collaborative  or through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program or to its Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program
