Gifts of Cash
Many gifts to West Chester Friends School are made by check or credit card. You may be able to claim the entire amount of your cash gift as a charitable income tax deduction. (The IRS allows you to claim this deduction up to 50% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). You can claim excess deductions over the five tax years following your gift.)
Gifts of Stock
A gift of stock can be a particularly good giving vehicle, especially if you have owned the stock for at least one year. If you sell the stock, you will pay a capital gains tax on any increase in its value. By giving stock to West Chester Friends School, you will avoid the capital gains tax and the IRS allows you to claim this deduction up to 30% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). Gifts through Your IRA
If you are 70½ or older, you are required to take a required minimum distribution annually from your IRA account(s). You can gift a distribution from your traditional or Roth IRA directly to West Chester Friends School that will be 100% tax free from federal and PA taxes. Gifts through Your Estate
The 1836 Society
The 1836 Society was established to honor those who have included West Chester Friends School in their estate planning. These include naming West Chester Friends School in your will or as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.
One of the easiest ways to give to West Chester Friends School is through your will of revocable living trust. You can name West Chester Friends School as the beneficiary of specific assets, a portion of your estate or your residual estate after payment of other bequests. Bequests are free from federal estate tax. To include the West Chester Friends School in your will or estate plans, please use this language:

The Annual Fund at West Chester Friends School benefits every child, every day. Contributions to the Annual Fund support a variety of programs and curriculum, field trips, faculty compensation and professional development, and facilities–every area that touches every student at WCFS.
Contributions of any amount count as participation in the Annual Fund, which is very important! Foundations and other grant-making organizations look to the percentage of participation in Annual Fund across constituencies as a measure of commitment and loyalty to West Chester Friends School. While we ask that you give what you can, it is essential that alumni, current and alumni parents, grandparents and friends make a gift to show your continuing support for WCFS.
Parent and alumni parent support of the Annual Fund is typically very high, and the percentage of support we receive from WCFS alumni is growing impressively! Thanks to challenge grants and the contagious energy of our alumni of all ages, participation in the Annual Fund has grown from 4% in 2012-2013 to just over 10% in 2017-2018!
