We Look Forward to Meeting You!
During the visit, and in subsequent conversations, Barbara Rowe, Director of Admissions, helps families learn about a child’s experience at West Chester Friends School, and guides parents and students through the process of application and admission. During this time, parents are offered an opportunity to meet with Brian Fahey, Head of School; faculty are available, as well, for questions regarding grade-level programming and special areas of study. A Parent Call List includes parents of current students who are happy to share their experiences at WCFS.
Director of Admissions Barbara Rowe arranges time for student applicants to come to campus for age-appropriate assessment and classroom visiting time.
Children who are applicants to the preschool program enjoy a visit time in The Friends Play School with their parents. Children applying to pre-kindergarten and kindergarten visit for about two hours, time during which they will participate in an individual developmental assessment and have fun in a class visit.
First grade applicants visit for one to two mornings in the kindergarten class and are assessed at that time. Students applying to grades two through five visit for one to two full days in their current grade level class and participate in reading, writing and mathematics assessments.
A copy of the student’s most recent report card (if applicable), a completed teacher recommendation form, and any existing evaluations for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade children must be submitted with, or before, the application.
Applications, which may be made online or by regular mail, are accepted all year for the following school year; applicants applying by January 15th are given ‘first round’ consideration for space. After January 15th, are considered as space allows. If space in a given classroom is limited, children may be assigned to a wait list. It is helpful to submit all paperwork by the first week of December to give time for assessments and visits which may take up to three weeks to finish.
Decision letters are sent February 1st to those families whose applications are complete by January 15th. Contracts offered must be returned March 1 with the required deposit to secure the space.
